The Challenge:
How do you translate a legendary global IP into a physical product without losing the ‘soul’ of the brand? Working as a designer for Fizz Creations and a Senior Freelancer for Paladone, the objective was to identify the core narrative hooks of iconic franchises, from Harry Potter and Nintendo to Sonic the Hedgehog and The Grinch and transform them into unique, ‘must-have’ consumer experiences for the global wholesale market. The challenge was to balance commercial viability with the high expectations of a ‘fan-first’ audience.
The Concept:
My creative approach centred on ‘storytelling through product’, moving beyond standard merchandise to create ‘in-universe’ artefacts. By treating each item as an extension of the brand's world, I ensured that every product resonated with the core fanbase while navigating complex approval processes and strict brand heritage. This involved managing the ‘sketch-to-shelf’ journey across multiple global licensees, treating even the retail packaging as the ‘first chapter’ of the guest experience – a visual hook that establishes immediate brand trust and energy.
The Experience:
By bridging the gap between aesthetics and experience-driven design, I helped bring one-of-a-kind gifts and games to life that allow consumers to bring a piece of their favourite world home. This project proved that through narrative-led product development, we can turn a functional purchase into a tangible memory, maintaining the highest level of brand integrity from the initial concept to the shelf.
